ANNE McKEE: Prime rib served with a side of Murder
Meridian Little Theatre presents its annual Mystery Dinner Theatre beginning Thursday, March 21. An Inheritance of Murder will make even the bravest among the attendees, perhaps, shriek and shiver. Blood pressure machines and heart monitors will be available, if needed, so I heard.
A rich old man has died, and there is a huge bank account plus an estate that would rival Biltmore. The stakes are high and the prime rib slices will ooze with tenderness, beyond compare.
Then enters the young, gold-digging wife, Fredericka, and the old fellow’s two devious sons, Brick and Egbert – all three will enhance the already disturbingly, sinister plot. But wait, possibly someone else, a third party could appear and will be up to no good, for sure? Each one mentioned has gathered for a reading of the will.

Yes, Colonel Klaus Von Strudel has breathed his last and his grieving widow and family have united for the last time. Fingers will point, words will spew and steak knives will glisten with a sharpness never witnessed before in polite company. Oh, what a mess to expect, Meridianites!
And if that is not enough, two Meridian Little Theatre favorites, Sidney Covington and Clint Brown, stir things up into a maddening stew of gigantic portions. As the plot progresses, everyone seated in the Colonel’s dining room will witness the inner-workings of many flawed and discombobulated characters, more than the usual number, I must say.
Oh, there is betrayal, hypocrisy, madness and did I mention Prime Rib?
Why there is enough hot, steaminess in the room that no one will call for Tabasco and the Dijon Roasted Potato Wedges will compete with a Brioche roll for attention as they lay low on your dinner plate. And oh, nothing needs salt/pepper – seasonings are perfect, just as the murder plot will reveal or something like that.
This is theater after all, Prime Rib with a side of Murder.
Menu
Italian Wedding Soup
Prime Rib
Dijon Roasted Potato Wedges
Roasted Vegetables
Brioche roll or toast
Italian Cream Cake
In order to bring the madness into a complete, crazy conclusion, at each performance audience awards will be presented: Best Audience Actor Award and Best Detective Award. I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t miss this bloody occasion, a murder mystery followed by Italian Cream Cake. Yeah!
