MCM-Meridian to host Harry Potter event
All muggles, young wizards and fans are invited to celebrate Harry Potter’s birthday at Mississippi Children’s Museum-Meridian from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, July 27.
British author J.K. Rowling has inspired millions of young readers through her much-loved, seven-novel series following the fictional young boy Harry Potter as he attends Hogwarts, a school for wizards.
Fans of the series will know Potter’s birthday is actually July 31, but the museum traditionally celebrates his birthday on the last Saturday of the month in what has become a popular annual event at MCM-Meridian.
On July 27, the museum will provide a variety of self-guided and facilitated activities for children, as well as their adult chaperones, to immerse them in the wizarding world found in the Harry Potter books. Throughout the day, museum guests will get the chance to learn about planting mandrakes in herbology class, whip up a polyjuice potion in potions class, train for a quidditch match in the outdoors My Fantastical Backyard, brush up on their wizard training in Defense Against the Dark Arts class, create a flying Hedwig, play wizard’s chess and design a house crest.
Guests are encouraged to wear a costume representing their favorite Harry Potter character.
All Harry Potter birthday activities are included in MCM-Meridian’s general $10 admission and museum membership. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
