JANESVILLE, Minn.  — Police report a man intending to burglarize a home in this Minnesota farm town offered to share meth with the owner when he discovered the uninvited visitor.

Police said the owner heard his dogs bark and his toddler greeting someone in another room, only to discover the would-be burglar, asking him what in the world he was doing there.

That’s when police said the man pulled out a glass pipe and offered the owner, who was not identified, if he would like to smoke some meth.

When the owner told him in no uncertain terms to leave, the police complaint said the man went outside, took off his shirt and hat and dropped a knife and a shoe in a nearby alley.

The home owner followed the man to his residence, called police, and then watched as he ran from his home and tried to pull an officer from his squad car, all the time yelling incoherently.

The officer shot the man with his stun gun, but it didn’t seem to deter him. Eventually, the officer handcuffed him. The pipe containing methamphetamine was found in his possession and the knife recovered from the alley, the police complaint said.

Christopher Lane Holthus, 33, of Janesville, was charged in court Monday with felony burglary, felony drug possession and gross misdemeanor obstructing the legal process.
