Accident injures two in Collinsville

A two-vehicle accident in Collinsville injured two people Wednesday morning, hospitalizing both drivers with non-life threatening injuries.

Around 8 a.m. a southbound car on Highway 19 hit the back of dump truck, losing its bumper, driving off the highway and landing in a ditch, Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop H Sgt. Andy West said.

Alongside the road, at the top of the ditch, the front bumper of the car lay among debris, including what appeared to be a windshield wiper fluid reservoir. 

The front engine of the car was still smoking slightly 20 minutes later and one of the hoses from a fire truck was unraveled. Metro Ambulance transported the drivers, both with non-life threatening injuries, to Rush Foundation Hospital.

Volunteers from Collinsville Fire & Rescue responded to the accident.
