‘Dancing Like The Stars 2016’ raises money for support programs

Five teams of celebrity dancers will strut their stuff Friday when Multi-County Community Service Agency Inc. presents its 10th annual Dancing Like the Stars: 2016 at the Tommy Dulaney Center on Highway 19 North.

Proceeds from the event go to fund the agency’s pursuit of additional funding, homeless prevention and Meals on Wheels. Approximately $18,000 was raised at last year’s event.

Dance teams include Clarke County Judge Toby Bartee and Christian News Editor Julia Holt; Meridian Community College fitness instructor Julia Holt and fitness enthusiast Brittany Portis; Anointed Word Church in Quitman Minister Rosie Bumpers and Elder Otis Bumpers, Clarke County Board of Aldermen and Veterans Affairs representative Ronald Holloway Sr. and Mernell H. Kerfel and Multi-County Executive Director Ron Collier and Multi-County Finance Director Shaketa Thomas.

Two dance groups will also perform, along with a speaker who once was a resident of the Francis W. Davidson Center for the Homeless.

“We really want this to be a big event because it commemorates 10 years helping make a difference in working with low-income communities in Meridian and the surrounding area,” Collier said. “We’ve had good response from corporations here and we look forward to it being a grand event.”

Individual tickets for the show are $50 each and are tax deductible. For more information, call Multi-County at 601-483-4838.
