Meridian Police Department is seeking a suspect after a shooting Sunday afternoon that injured two people.
In a news release, Police Chief Deborah Naylor Young said officers responded to the shooting call in the 2500 block of 36th Street around 5:15 p.m. Two victims were taken to a local hospital by Metro Ambulance, and one was later airlifted to Jackson for further treatment.
Young said police learned a potential suspect in the shooting was barricaded in the house where the shooting took place and activated the MPD SWAT team to respond to the scene.
“The SWAT Team checked out the residence and determined there was no threat to the community, “ Young said. “This is an isolated incident; everyone knew each other.”
Acting Capt. Dareall Thompson said law enforcement is searching for 32-year-old David Alexander of Hattiesburg. Alexander is 5-foot, 7-inches tall, approximately 180 pounds and has brown eyes, he said.
An active investigation into the shooting is ongoing, Young said.
Anyone with information about the shooting or Alexander’s whereabouts is asked to contact Meridian Police Department or East Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 855-485-8477.
