Suspect in Lauderdale County shooting death caught in Lee County

A man accused of shooting a woman to death in Lauderdale County early Saturday morning has been captured in North Mississippi.

The shooting happened around 7:19 a.m. at a home on Old Homestead Road, said Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun of the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department.  

The victim was taken a local emergency room, where she died, he said. The man left the scene quickly, Calhoun said.  

After interviewing witnesses, authorities developed a suspect, then alerted other law enforcement agencies across the state. 

The suspect was caught around 9:30 a.m. by the Shannon Police Department and Lee County Sheriff’s Department.

Calhoun said Lauderdale County authorities are headed to Lee County to pick him up.

The identities of the victim and the suspect were not immediately released.
