New facelift at Splashdown Country

Since 1984, Splashdown Country has been the spot to cool down when things get hot. The Okatibbee Water Park features adult and kiddy water slides, a lazy river, and a pool area for smaller children.

Today marks the reopening of the water park where work has just been completed to spruce up the facility, Manager Paul Govedare said.

“The water park is essentially the same as far as structure and what attractions we have,” Govedare said. “We came in and did some fresh painting and put in some new artificial shade for the customers. We’ve also revamped the whole concession area, including a nice menu.”

There are also new lockers for belongings. Also new — customers can now rent the facility for birthday parties and purchase summer passes .

“We have a good clientele but over the years we really didn’t get the word out — it was pretty much word of mouth,” Govedare said. “We do a good bit of business.”

Splashdown Country is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon-6 p.m.; Friday from noon-7 p.m.; Saturday from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.; and Sunday from 2-7 p.m.

A full day of park access costs $10 and there is a group rate of $6 a person with 25 people or more. Family passes, good for five people, are $200 for the summer.
