Municipal elected officials from towns across the state will meet in Meridian next week to share ideas and challenges unique to their communities as the Mississippi Municipal League’s annual Small Town Conference comes to town.

This year’s conference, which will be Oct. 25-26, will feature a round of certified municipal official education sessions before attendees convene for two rounds of concurrent breakout sessions and two general session presentations over the two-day event.

Speakers include Mississippi Department of Transportation Executive Director Brad White and Broadband Expansion and Accessibility of Mississippi Director Sally Doty. MML members will also hear presentations on the importance of organ donations and how to preserve or promote static military equipment displays.

“While the Small Town Conference is designed with our state’s smaller communities in mind, all elected officials can benefit from the valuable education sessions, expert speakers, and networking among peers that this event provides. Mississippi citizens should be heartened by their local officials’ desire to be as informed, educated and prepared as possible in order to best serve their constituents,” MML President Hattiesburg Mayor Toby Barker said.

The City of Meridian, along with several local businesses, will sponsor a welcome reception on Oct. 25 at The MAX for those attending the conference.

The mission of the Mississippi Municipal League is helping cities and towns excel. MML is a non-partisan association established in 1931, representing 290 city, town and village governments. MML is also affiliated with the National League of Cities, a lobbying, legislative and legal arm representing municipalities before the U.S. Congress.
