Highland Baptist Church was organized on Jan. 19, 1890 in the portion of the city known as the Highlands.
Services were held at 3400 27th St. on Sunday, Aug. 5, 1951. On June 6, 1954 Highland Baptist Church occupied its new building at 3400 27th St.
The Highland Baptist Kindergarten opened in the fall of 1956, beginning Highland’s work in the community as a respected Child Development Center.
For 32 years Highland Baptist Church’s music ministry has presented The Singing Christmas Tree, one of Meridian’s most joyous attractions of the holiday season.
The tree draws thousands of people to its six performances and is a music and drama production under the direction of Franklin Denham, minister of music.
