‘Remember When’ to spotlight businesses, past and present

Today’s episode of “Remember When” on WMER-AM 1390 will spotlight the legacies of Rayner Drugs and Gifts Inc. and Peavey Melody Music Inc.

The show will begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue until noon.

Rayner Drugs opened for business in the late 1920s. Owner Ben Quintana is currently closing out the store’s remaining stock and plans to sell the building. Quintana started working for the Rayner family as a pharmacist in 1947.

Peavey Melody Music was founded in 1938 and closed in January, after serving the area for 68 years.

The regular radio special, marking 23 years on the air, will also feature a new businessman —taking on an old business which he acquired on Sept. 1.

Wade Lindemann purchased Burton-Cole Monument Company and has re-named it Burton-Lindemann Monument Company. The company was opened in 1950 by Ulmer Burton, whose estate sold the firm to Webb Funeral Home, which operated the business for a few years.

Today’s guests will include Wade Lindemann, Bob Holcomb, Ben Quintana and Thelma Fitzgerald, who will touch on “courteous cashiers serving the public.”
