The Lauderdale County School District on Thursday approved the district’s calendar for the 2019-2020 school year.

Before coming to the board for approval, a survey was sent out to administrators and staff to vote on one of two options, said Cheryl Thomas, the district’s director of curriculum and instruction.

The first day of school for students is Aug. 6. The last day is May 21.

On the calendar, students will have Good Friday off for Easter, and will return to school on Monday. For their fall break, students will have two days off, while staff will have one day off. The second day will be used for professional development, Thomas said.

Parent-teacher conferences will also be moved from Wednesday to Thursday, and graduations will be held on Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday instead of Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

The calendar will also have make up days built in, such as President’s Day and days near the end of the school year.
