- Carolyn Jones (left) and Rita Flint, members of Jones Memorial Presbyterian Church, show some of the items that will be for sale Saturday at the church's 25th annual Fall Fest Catfish Feast.
The smell of catfish will be in the air around Jones Memorial Presbyterian Church this weekend.
It’s time for the 25th annual Fall Fest Catfish Feast, which will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, located at 4415 Royal Road in Meridian.
Rain or shine, the sale of catfish plates will go on. Catfish plates cost $8 each and include three catfish fillets, hushpuppies, French fries and coleslaw.
As always, part of the proceeds from the sale of catfish plates and other items will go to help others, according to Carrie Latham, spokesperson.
“We are giving a portion of the proceeds to Anderson Hospital’s Cancer Patient Benevolence Fund and Hope Village for Children,” Latham said.
Tickets are on sale for $1 for a chance to win a hand-crafted quilt made by a group of church members who quilt together. Two more quilts will be for sale and numerous handmade arts and crafts, such as quilted baby quilts, pillows, cross-stitching items, wall hangings.
Christmas ornaments and many other holiday items will also be for sale.
In addition, there will be a bake sale featuring homemade preserves, pickles, jellies, pastries, and candles, as well as homemade breads, cakes, and pies, all of which have been prepared by church members.
“We also offer a wide variety of frozen homemade meat and vegetable casseroles, soups, stuffed potatoes,” Latham said. “With the busy holiday season approaching, these would be wonderful to have on hand for those hectic days.”
Meat casseroles are $12 each; vegetable casseroles are $10 each
There will also be the ever-popular junktique sale, where church members donate used items for sale. Baby items, a dinette table and chairs, pots and pans, as well as other kitchen ware will be on sale. Children at the church will sell canned drinks for 50 cents each.
The festival begins Saturday at 9 a.m. and will continue until 2 p.m. Fish plates will be sold beginning at 11 a.m. To buy an advanced ticket or a quilt ticket, see any church member or call 601-482-6220 or go by the church.
