The Apostle W.J. Peterson, along with his wife, Jennell, were residing in Chicago in 1955. It was there that he received the gospel of the kingdom from Jesus Christ.

On one particular day, God instructed him to leave Chicago and take route 45 South. He traveled this route to Meridian.

This is where the Spirit told him to rest. Being inspired by the Holy Spirit, he preached the gospel for four weeks, where many were baptized.

In 1955, The Pentecostal Church of God was founded in Meridian, which is the headquarters for the district. One of the first members was Bro. J.J. Sears (later to become Bishop J. J. Sears). The address was 2227 15th Avenue.

Sears passed away in 1985. Before his passing, he prophesized that the church on the property at 1811 Old Marion Road would one day belong to The Pentecostal Church of God. In 1987, his prophecy came true under the leadership of Bishop Marcella Evins and Bishop Henry Martin.

In 1989, The Pentecostal Christian Academy was dedicated to the Lord, under the leadership of Bishop Marcella Evins. After his passingĀ in 2009, Bishop Andrew Stephens, of Jacksonville, Fla., was sent to oversee the district in 2010. Under his leadership and Divine wisdom, the Christian Academy received national accreditation in April 2017.

Now, the church has entered into a new phase of growth with the construction of PCG Family Life Center.

This center will house new classrooms, a gymnasium, and much, much more. It will truly be a beacon light of the community and surrounding area.
