ECCC to host 6th annual high school art show

The Visual Art Program at East Central Community College recently announced it will host the 6th Annual Invitational High School Art Exhibition beginning Feb. 5 and running through March 6.

The exhibition is an exciting event showcasing the talent of high school students from across ECCC’s district. The exhibition will not only highlight students’ artistic achievements but also introduce them to ECCC’s Visual Art Program and facilities.

Categories for submission include Painting, Ceramics, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, Drawing, Design, and Digital Media/Computer Art. There is no cost to participate, and students will have the experience of presenting their work in a gallery setting. 

Interested students will need to drop off their submission between Jan. 20 and Jan. 24. The exhibition will be held Feb. 5 through March 6 with an awards reception planned for 6 p.m. March 6 in the Ovid S. Vickers Fine Arts Center on the ECCC campus in Decatur. Student can pick up their artwork submissions after the March 6 awards reception.

Students’ submissions will be judged and awards will be given for those works placing first, second and third, with honorable mentions recognized as well.

Artwork submissions must be created by a high school student only, and art must be matted, black or white, with foam core backing. A hanging tab must be located on the back of the artwork. Heat/vacuum seal or acetate is optional. The maximum size allowed for submissions is 4-feet by 4-feet.

Each school may submit up to seven entries, and each submission must be labeled with the student’s name, title, school, grade and category/media.
