First Baptist Church Stonewall was founded in 1870 when E.W. Wainwright began a very small Textile Mill where many orphans, widows and young children were employed.
He deeded land for a Baptist and Methodist Church. The Baptist Church was built as a one-room structure with two small rooms on the back, and a baptistry under the pulpit. No records were kept until 1908. Rev. W.A. Lusk was the first known pastor of First Baptist Stonewall.
A new church building was completed in 1947. In 1971 an Educational Building was built. In 1972 the church front, as it appears today, was remodeled. A Family Life Center, which includes a gym, was dedicated in Sept. of 2007.
