Trojans take shutout win over Pelahatchie

Kevin Gandy couldn’t have asked for a better start as the new head coach at Northeast Lauderdale High School.

Quarterback Jase Jimison went 12-of-14 passing for 193 yards with two touchdowns and added four carries for 112 yards and two more touchdowns as the Trojans (1-0) shutout Pelahatchie 42-0 on the road in the season opener on Friday night.

“Friday night was a major catalyst for us. Always great to start the season 1-0,” Gandy said. “Offensively we played well but need to clean up the self-inflicted penalties. Defensively, we didn’t play our best but saw some kids grow up that we’re expecting great things out of.”

PCS 28, Lamar School 22

The Bobcats turned four Raider turnovers into points as PCS was able to hold to beat Lamar School in Hattiesburg on Friday night.

Wyatt Bond went 32-of-52 passing for 354 yards with three touchdowns to lead the Raiders (1-1).

Sullivan Reed had 10 catches for 160 yards with two touchdowns and also had three tackles and a sack on defense. Jalin Trotter added 10 catches for 134 yards and a touchdown for the Raiders.

“We played extremely hard and had a lot of great moments but it’s difficult to over come four turnovers against a good PCS team,” said Lamar School coach Jacob Land. “Our kids never gave up, fought until the end and gave us a chance. I’m looking forward to seeing how we grow and improve from this experience.”

Tylertown 34, Clarkdale 0

The Chiefs ran all over the Bulldogs on Friday night in Clarkdale. Freshman Leland Harris had five tackles, an interception, and 97 return yards for the Bulldogs (0-1) on Friday night.

Quitman 22, Meridian 6

Jaleil Cameron went 10-of-12 passing for 112 yards with two touchdowns and had 166 yards rushing on 10 carries with a touchdown as the Panthers (1-0) ran past the Wildcats at Ray Stadium on Thursday night. Corey McCann had a 25-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Brown for Meridian (0-1).
