Ace Hardware is coming to North Hills.

The store, located in the Broadmoor shopping center, will open this Friday, with a grand opening set for June, according to a company news release from Meridian Ace Hardware owner Majure Office and Trucking.

“While the inside of the store is fully stocked and ready, the garden center shipments will continue to arrive over the next couple of weeks, and we expect to be fully stocked by spring,” David Majure wrote in the statement.

“It just felt right, and it felt like something that we wanted to do and we were excited about doing,” Majure said in a phone interview, explaining why he decided to open his first Ace Hardware store. “The main thing is it just felt right.”

Majure Office and Trucking also operates a group of Fred’s Discount Stores from its home office in Meridian.

Jimmy Palmer, Majure Office and Trucking president of operations, said the new store “will offer a wide variety of paint, lawn and garden, tools, plumbing supplies, electrical supplies and anything you need to repair and maintain a home or business,” according to the news release.  

Store manager Shane Haygood said the store would serve everyone from commercial contractors to homeowners.

Majure said his family opened its first Fred’s store in March 1968.

“Fifty years later, we’re opening up an Ace in Meridian,” Majure said. “We’ve been the largest multi-store operator of Fred’s for the last 48 years. At our height, we had 28 stores…”

Major said he was impressed with Ace’s business model. And while operating a discount store requires having the products people need, the hardware business is a bit different.

“In an Ace store you have to have that educated staff member to wait on you hand-and-foot and to help you figure out the project you’re working on and coach you on how to make installations and repairs. That’s the largest difference we see in the discount and Ace categories.”

Ace Hardware will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
