Lubbock, Texas — Meridian Community College’s men’s track team will enter this weekend’s NJCAA Indoor National Championships at Texas Tech’s Sports Performance Center ranked No. 6 in nation, while the women will enter the meet ranked No. 25.
MCC will see 14 men participate in 12 events over the two-day meet that will run Friday and Saturday, while the women will have three participants in six events.
“We have a great group we have brought to this national meet that covers several events particularly on the men’s side,” said fifth-year head coach Chip Gayden. “We have a group on the men’s side that should perform extremely well and put us in the mix come finals day on Saturday and on the women’s side we should do well in the six events we are entered.”
On the men’s side, MCC will be led by their entries in the 400 meters, 600 meters, 800 meters and their 4×800 meter relay, 4×400 meter relay and distance medley relay.
In the 400 meters, MCC boasts three entries that include the NJCAA leader in James Burnett who has posted a time of 46.92. Burnett will be joined by last year’s outdoor national runner-up in the event Stephan Holcombe and Terry Conwell.

Two freshmen will lead the way for MCC in the 800 meters. Devin Martin and Michael Weaver both entered the event ranked in the Top 10 with Martin and Weaver ranking No. 7 and No. 8, respectively.
MCC will look to three strong relays over the course of the two-day meet, which includes their 4×800 meter relay looking for a three-peat at a national championship in the event. MCC will start the meet off with their DMR on Friday that currently ranks No. 6. MCC will round out the meet Saturday with their 4×400 meter relay that currently ranks No. 2.
In the field events, two jumpers will look to lead MCC in both the long jump and triple jump. Jason Brown will compete in both the long jump and triple jump during the two-day meet, while Marrel Parker will compete in the long jump.
On the women’s side, MCC will look to three ladies that will compete in both sprint and hurdle events and jumping events during the two-day event.
