Students and staff at Meridian High School were placed on lockdown early Tuesday morning due to shots reportedly being fired near campus, according to a press release from the Meridian Public School District.
MPSD Campus Police responded to the incident, and it was confirmed that no one on campus was injured. However, during the investigation, it was determined that a vehicle parked on campus was targeted for what is believed to be vandalism.
Campus Police, along with the assistance of Meridian Police Department, is currently investigating, and one person has been taken into custody as part of the investigation.
“We want to reassure parents and the community that students and staff are safe on campus,” said Campus Police Chief Cornelius Parks.
Campus Police is still looking for an additional suspect who fled on foot. The investigation is still ongoing and additional details will be released as they become available.
