The Salvation Army encourages community to adopt forgotten Angels

Christmas is fast approaching and The Salvation Army is urging residents to make a difference in the lives of local children and seniors by participating in its annual Angel Tree program.

The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program has long provided an opportunity for individuals, families and groups to spread holiday joy to those who might otherwise go without gifts. However, each year, some of these angels remain without sponsors, highlighting the need for the community’s renewed commitment.

“The spirit of Christmas is about giving, and through the Angel Tree program, we ensure that even the most vulnerable members of our community—our children and seniors—can feel the love and warmth of the season,” said Lt. Roy Fisher of The Salvation Army of Meridian. “Our goal is to have no angel left behind this year. We invite everyone to open their hearts and adopt an angel, making their holiday truly special.”

Participants can select an angel from local Angel Trees placed at all Citizens National Bank locations in Meridian and Philadelphia, as well as Walmart Supercenters in Lauderdale, Neshoba and Newton counties. Each angel contain details about a child’s or senior’s specific wish list and needs. Donors are then asked to shop for gifts based on the provided information and return them to the designated drop-off point.

This year, gifts for angels need to be returned by Dec. 9.

For those unable to shop in person, The Salvation Army also accepts online donations and gift sponsorships @salvationarmymeridian.org to ensure that every angel receives a personalized and meaningful gift.

Angels can also be adopted by contacting The Salvation Army of Meridian at 601-483-6156 or at the office located at 1115 25th Ave. in Meridian.

Despite the outpouring of generosity in past years, some angels have gone unadopted, especially seniors who may be without family support. This year, The Salvation Army is calling for a unified effort to ensure that no one is forgotten.

“It is heartbreaking to see names left on the Angel Tree as Christmas approaches,” Fisher said. “Sponsoring an angel is more than just giving a gift; it’s about giving hope, connection and a sense of belonging to someone who needs it most.”
