ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Carson Beck threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, leading No. 11 Georgia to a 31-17 win over No. 6 Tennessee that gave a huge boost to the Bulldogs’ College Football Playoff hopes. Georgia improved to 8-2, bouncing back from a 28-10 loss at Ole Miss that left the Bulldogs just outside the provisional 12-team postseason field. Now, they are positioned for a likely playoff berth — and a shot at winning their third national title in four years — if they can close out the regular season with wins over UMass and Georgia Tech. Tennessee could have moved closer to a berth in the SEC championship game. But the postseason prospects for the 8-2 Vols are now a whole lot murkier.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Quinn Ewers threw for 176 yards and two touchdowns and No. 3 Texas’ defense clamped down on Arkansas’ final two possessions to help the Longhorns win 20-10. Ewers’ 1-yard pass to Matthew Golden ended an eight-play, 75-yard drive that provided the Longhorns with a two-score lead with 9:05 left. Ewers, who finished 20-of-32 passing, also connected with Golden for the game’s first touchdown. Arkansas’ Taylen Green finished 17-of-25 passing for 149 yards with an interception.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — DJ Lagway threw for a touchdown and set up another with a long completion in his return from a strained left hamstring, and Florida upset No. 21 LSU 27-16 on Saturday to give the Gators their first series victory since 2018. Jadan Baugh’s 55-yard scoring scamper with 3:48 remaining essentially sealed it and put the Gators (5-5, 3-4 Southeastern Conference) on the verge of becoming bowl eligible. Florida had dropped eight in a row against ranked opponents and was 1-10 under coach Billy Napier in rivalry games. The Gators sacked Garrett Nussmeier seven times — one more than LSU (6-4, 3-3) allowed in its first nine games combined.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — LSU coach Brian Kelly was caught on camera screaming at one player and getting yelled at by another. The sideline scenes were clear signs of frustration for a program that was on its way to losing a third consecutive game, 27-16 at unranked Florida. Now, the 21st-ranked Tigers will be the ones out of the polls. And the LSU fanbase might be out of patience with Kelly. The coach appeared to get into it with receiver Chris Hilton in the first half. Late in the third quarter, cameras captured receiver Kyren Lacy yelling at Kelly on the sideline after an empty possession.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Marcel Reed threw two touchdown passes and ran for a third score in less than three quarters to help No. 15 Texas A&M cruise to a 38-3 win over New Mexico State. It was a bounce-back performance for Texas A&M, which was handed its first Southeastern Conference loss after being shut out in the second half of a 44-20 defeat at South Carolina two weeks ago before an open date last Saturday. Texas A&M led 17-0 at the end of a first quarter in which it outgained New Mexico State 273-50. The Aggies were up 31-0 when Conner Weigman took over at quarterback for Reed with about 3 1/2 minutes left in the third.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Jalen Milroe passed for two touchdowns and ran for a third in just over two quarters to help No. 9 Alabama beat FCS team Mercer 52-7. Ryan Williams ran for a 29-yard touchdown and caught a 14-yard score for the Crimson Tide, who got a reprieve from Southeastern Conference games after re-entering the Top 10 with a dominating win over LSU. The Bears, playing without injured quarterback DJ Smith, had already clinched a spot in the FCS playoffs and at least a share of the Southern Conference title.
SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (AP) — Jaylen Murray scored 16 points and No. 25 Mississippi beat Colorado State 84-69. Mikeal Brown-Jones scored 14 points for the Rebels, while Malik Dia and Dre Davis added 11 points apiece. Matthew Murrell, a three-year starter at shooting guard for the Rebels, hit a game-opening 3-point shot after missing the previous game with a back injury and scored 10 points. Jalen Lake and Nique Clifford led Colorado State with 21 and 18 points, respectively.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Myles Rice scored 17 of his 23 points in the first half and No. 16 Indiana defeated South Carolina 87-71 on Saturday. Rice, a Washington State transfer, hit 7 of 10 shots including 3 of 4 from 3-point range and all six foul shots. The Hoosiers (3-0) were never seriously threatened in the second half, their smallest lead being eight points with 1:19 remaining. Morris Ugusuk led the Gamecocks (2-2) with 18 points, including four 3-pointers.
