Mothers a gift from God

What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visit him? (Psa 8:4) And, as God looked upon man He saw that man was alone. He said, I will make a companion for him and that He did in Genesis 2:21-23.

From the ruddy complexion of man created by God from the clay of the earth He took a rib and built a she-man or a man with a womb whom Adam called woman. The Hebrew word used in the creation of woman was panah which means skillfully formed. The writer did not use the Hebrew word asah that is defined “Made.” Eve, the mother of all creation and companion to Adam was created equal to Adam, she was to be under the protection of his arms and she was taken from his rib to be by his side to help guard his heart and emotion.

Mother’s Day is special to God for in every new life that comes to mother, He the God of the universe creates a plan for a new and special life. To every new and special life God says to each in Jeremiah 29:11. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Sunday, we remember Mother’s Day and know that every Mother has a special place in the heart of God. Mary, the mother of Jesus, was His concern as he hung on the cross dying for the world. To his mother and John the beloved, He said. “Woman, behold your son, for whom, from now on, you must have a motherly affection,” and to John, “Behold you mother, to whom you must pay a sonly duty.” Jesus tenderly provides for his mother at His death for He knew her cares and griefs.

What is a mother? Webster says a mother is a female parent. She has youthful energy equal to a teenager with the gentle touch of a lamb until you mess with her kids. Then, one finds out what a lion will do if mother says, “Don’t mess with my kids! A mother has the ability to be almost anything in the time of need even when teaching a class.

Forty-eight years ago my wife was the Romper Room teacher, “Miss Dee” on a local television station. The hour long Romper Room program had daily events that could never be expected. Miss Dee learned quickly that questions about the family were definitely out of bounds because kids five years old try to tell the truth, which sometimes may be too revealing.

One afternoon a few minutes into the live program Miss Dee noticed one of the little students did not go to the “pot tie” before the show began. In the next segment she signaled the director to move the chair out so that the story book segment would be without incident. As the kids went back for the story book session a little girl sat in the unchanged plastic chair and immediately jumped up explaining. OH! Miss Dee, I wet my panties!

The director immediately went to an advertisement and the program went on to the story book time with closure and the magic mirror ending. Whether it is your kids or our kids a mother is challenged with everything conceivable in the home.

My wife, Miss Dee, knelt down before school every day to ask God for guidance in the lives of our children. It was Abraham Lincoln who stated. No one is poor who had a godly mother.
