- SubmittedHold Haarala, 7, killed a fine turkey in the waning days of the season and it was a testament to his tenacity and desire. Young Holt's older brother had taken a gobbler within the first hour of the youth season and it just seemed too easy. Things were not so easy for Holt but he was driven by the desire to harvest a bird of his own and he was not to be deterred no matter the cost.Holt and his dad, Ryan Haarala, faced many difficulties during their quest, including poor weather and bad luck. Holt never fussed, complained or gave up. The young hunter persevered through all of the trials and finally got his trophy gobbler on April 28 with help from his 20-gauge Remington 870 with Federal #9 TSS shot. The gobbler had a 9.5-inch beard and almost 1-inch spurs. In the process, Holt and his dad made a lifetime memory after a season of frustration.
