Downed trees, power lines after severe weather

Severe weather across Mississippi struck Mississippi State University’s campus Saturday night be spared much of East Mississippi. 

“We have some power lines affected and downed trees,” Ward Calhoun, the chief deputy of the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department, said. “No injuries that I’m aware of.”

Calhoun said that by 9:30 a.m., roadways had been mostly cleared.

Mississippi Power reported 40 customers affected in Meridian and a dozen in Clarke County on their website, mississippipower.com.

East Mississippi Electric Power Association had over 70 customers affected, according to a power outage map at emepa.com.
