Monday, April 1, two out of state travelers came to the Walmart in Meridian, Mississippi. A massive heart attack was experienced by Gene, 82-years-old.

His wife, Joanne, turned for help and Leslie, a customer at the grocery outdoor pickup, responded immediately with a call to EMS and remained with Joanne. A Walmart employee reported the incident to Walmart management, who quickly came offering CPR until EMS arrived. Each person responded with complete generosity to these two unknown travelers in need of help.
EMS acted skillfully and with compassion to both Gene and Joanne. The emergency room physician, nurses and chaplain provided medical care with dignity and kindness.
Leslie, the first to assist in this critical life event, stayed with Joanne throughout the hospital stay, helped in obtaining a room at the Microtel in Meridian and returned the following day to provide comfort and a meal.
Joanne continued to be blessed by a police escort to the Meridian airport, making it possible to pick-up her daughter from out of state.
Joanne and Gene have traveled over 60 years across the United States and Europe and have never encountered the depth and breadth of kindness, generosity and compassion as was experienced on April 1 in Meridian, Mississippi.
The family of Gene and Joanne want our deepest gratitude to be expressed to all who were there when help was needed most.
