VIRGINIA DAWKINS: The aftermath of abortion choice
Published 8:15 am Wednesday, June 26, 2019
Beth Sharp believes that every child is a gift from God. However, she did not always see it that way. There was a time when an unplanned pregnancy seemed only to be an interruption of her life plans. Having had an abortion when she was 17, a decade later, she was certain that abortion was again the answer – and she made that choice.
When Beth’s friends learned of her appointment with the abortion clinic, they began praying earnestly that Beth would change her mind. But she showed no signs of a heart change, and soon made her way to the abortion clinic alone. When she was prepped, lying on the table, and waiting for the procedure, an unbelievable thing happened. The doctor walked in and said. “I’m sorry, but I can’t do this. I cannot perform an abortion for you.”

Today she knows that it was the prayers of her friends and the pleas of her praying grandmother that intervened and saved the life of her baby girl. Later, when she saw the sonogram and the tiny beating heart, she grieved at the thought of what might have been.
Today she tells her story wherever she goes: “All I have is a voice,” says Beth, “and I am compelled to tell my story to young women everywhere.” Now she knows that it is actually God’s hand that forms each baby in its mother’s womb, and her key scripture is: “Before I made you in your mother’s womb, I knew you” (Jeremiah 1:5).
When Beth speaks in schools and civic organizations, her beautiful daughter often goes with her. Sometimes the question is asked of the daughter, “How does it make you feel that your mother didn’t want you?” And she answers, “The important thing is that God wanted me.”
Beth Sharp is the director of the Center For Pregnancy Choices, where they offer 24-hour counseling, free pregnancy tests, post-abortion counseling, and referrals for adoption, medical assistance, employment and education. All visits are free and confidential.
Beth believes there is a great need for post-abortion healing, and she says, “Women need to heal after abortion in order to forgive themselves of the shame and guilt. They need a revelation that after repentance God remembers their sins no more. Also, talking about it with a group brings peace. Knowing there are others that made that choice too makes it easier to release. And last, knowing that the child went straight into the arms of Jesus brings happiness and one day there will be a great reunion.”
A Post Abortion Bible Study called “Surrendering the Secret” is offered beginning Aug. 19, 2019. This nine-week study has been used to help many women heal from the pain of a past abortion. For information about this, call or text 602-527-8829. All calls and inquiries are strictly confidential.
