Several teachers from the Meridian Public School District were recognized by the Board of Education during Monday’s school board meeting as recipients of classroom mini-grants awarded by the Junior Auxiliary of Meridian.

MPSD teachers were awarded 12 mini-grants that will impact classrooms and campuses all across the district, Superintendent Amy Carter said in recognizing those teachers.

Educators who received grants were Katie Horn, for the project “Disconnect to Reconnect — Break the Cycle,” G.W. Carver Elementary School; Walt Littleton, “Developing Tomorrow’s Tech Leaders: Investing in Student Success,” Ross Collins Career and Technical Center; Barbara Sanders, “Melodies for Minds: Xylophone Learning in Every Hand,” Parkview Elementary School; Deyantah Curry, “Wildcat Chats,” Crestwood Elementary School; Jacob Mars, “Podcasts for Practice: Drafting, Revising, and Recording about Local Topics,” Marion Park; Nancy Walton and Lydia Brand, “All We Do Is Dance-Dance-Dance,” Poplar Springs Elementary School; Morgan Bailey, “3,2,1 … Blasting into Rocketry,” Poplar Springs Elementary; Kelly Lammerson, “Gardening and Harvesting without Soil,” Meridian High School; Amanda Mowery, Jordan Mills and Linda Hopkins, “First Grade Takes on Learning Through Play,” Parkview Elementary; and Katherine Waldrop, “Exploring the World of Baking,” West Hills Elementary.

In all, 34 classrooms from schools throughout Lauderdale County will benefit from $26,700 in teacher mini grants awarded by the Junior Auxiliary of Meridian this year. Reaching students across diverse needs and disciplines, this year’s grants will address a broad spectrum of learning opportunities, including family engagement and community involvement, according to a press release.
