The Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors met publicly for 30 minutes to discuss the agenda for Tuesday’s board meeting before spending 90 minutes in executive session.
On the agenda for Monday, the board will vote to approve staffing changes and grant applications for the Sheriff’s Department, approve a Minnow Bucket Road dirt pit and work for the Road Department, and accept two $25,000 checks issued from the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency for Partners in Recovery, the county’s long-term recovery committee.
Funds from MEMA will go toward construction costs for fixing homes damaged in the April 2018 tornado that struck Meridian and Marion.
At 9:42 a.m., supervisors motioned to determine the need for an executive session after beginning at 9:10 a.m. Usually punctual, supervisors delayed returning from the Boy Scout’s Pancake breakfast and couldn’t form a quorum at their usual 9 a.m. meeting time.
By 9:53 a.m., the supervisors voted to go into executive session, inviting Bill Hannah, the CEO of the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation, to discuss “economic development,” or the potential location of a business or industry to Lauderdale County.
Board Attorney Lee Thaggard said the board also went into executive session to discuss the potential purchase or lease of real property as well as personnel matters pertaining to the Lauderdale County Cleaning Service.
Following the executive session, Thaggard said no action was taken.
Tuesday’s meeting is at 9 a.m. at the Lauderdale County Annex.
