Lauren Lewis and Maggie Meadows had the same thing working for them: location.

The Clarkdale softball pitching duo combined to hold Russell Christian Academy to just two runs over five innings as the Lady Bulldogs topped the Lady Warriors 8-2 in the Clarkdale Spring Fling tournament Friday evening.
Lewis got the start for Clarkdale and pitched 2 2/3 innings, striking out five as RCA scored on a pair of errors to take an early 2-0 lead. The Lady Bulldogs went on to score eight unanswered runs, and Meadows pitched the final 2 1/3 innings, giving up just one walk while striking out six.
“Consistency,” Clarkdale head coach Kate McCarty said to sum up Lewis and Meadows’ performance. “The umpire was calling certain strikes, and they tried to reach (the spots) he was calling.”
Lewis, Meadows and Julie Griffith had one hit apiece for Clarkdale, as most of the Lady Bulldogs’ runs came on RCA errors. Still, McCarty said she was pleased with how her offense stepped up as the game wore on to score eight unanswered runs.
“The offense really stepped up,” McCarty said. “The defense had two errors, and that’s where those two (early) runs scored. When we get consistent on offense, we’re definitely going to produce. That’s been our issue all year in that we’re not consistent.”
The Lady Warriors finished with seven errors, something head coach Larry Lippert said was indicative of them being rusty thanks to spring break.

“We’re still on spring break, apparently,” Lippert said. “We didn’t practice all week, and I was kind of expecting us to play a little flat, just not that flat. We had a non-mandatory batting practice (Thursday) and a few showed up, but when you don’t pick up a ball or bat all week long, it shows.”
Branley Lippert got the start for RCA, going four innings and giving up eight runs, one earned, while striking out seven. She also was 1-for-1 at the plate with two walks. The game was called after an hour and a half of play due to tournament time limits.
Clarkdale (2-6) will host Heidelberg Monday. RCA will play at Jackson Academy (Alabama) Tuesday.
