Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced Monday the recent sentencing of Britton Butler of Madison. Butler pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of child exploitation material.
On April 16, Madison County Circuit Court Judge Dewey Arthur sentenced Butler to 40 years in the custody of MDOC with eight years to serve day-for-day without the possibility of parole and five years of supervised probation. He was ordered to pay $1,000 assessment to the Mississippi Children’s Trust Fund, a $1,000 assessment to the Mississippi Crime Victim Compensation Fund, $1000 to the Victims of Human Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation Fund.
Butler will also have to register as a sex offender upon release.
“My office will continue to hold those who exploit and prey on Mississippi’s children accountable,” said Fitch. “Together, we can make Mississippi a safer place for everyone. But we need your help. If you suspect a child is being exploited or abused, please report it to my office. Your tip could save a life.”
This case initiated from several Cybertips and was investigated and prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
Anyone with information about a child being sexually exploited online is asked to report it to 1-800-843-5678. You can also make a report online at www.cybertipline.org. The hotline is manned by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and tips are reported to the Attorney General’s Office, which runs the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force for Mississippi.
