Lauderdale County School District thanked teachers for their work educating tomorrow’s leaders with an Educators Extravaganza event Monday at the Mississippi Children’s Museum-Meridian.
The first of its kind, LCSD Superintendent John-Mark Cain said the event was organized as a way to recognize the hard work and sacrifices educators make in order to help their students learn.
“We just wanted to say, take a little time out of our day, your day, to say thank you for what you do because I know you don’t get told that enough,” he said. “The challenges that you have and the sacrifices that you make physically and mentally, it’s a challenge. It’s a challenge for everyone, but your calling as an educator, we just want to say thank you.”
The Educators Extravaganza featured snacks and drinks, door prizes, community resources, tours and more to not only thank local teachers but also to introduce them to opportunities they may not have known about. LCSD also recognized individual teachers who earned their national certifications.
While Monday was the first time for the event, Cain said it will not be the last, and wheels are already turning for a larger celebration of the district’s teachers next year.
