Junior high school students add up wins

The Meridian Community College Math and Science Division hosted the regional seventh and eighth grade Math Tournament, sponsored by the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Middle and junior high schools in MCC’s district are invited to send top seventh and eighth-grade mathematics students to this competition. Students take a written standardized test. This year’s district competition was 23 students compete.

The first and second-place winners in each grade qualify for the state competition in April at the Mississippi School for Math and Sciences in Columbus.

Seventh-grade winners include Jaxon Adkins from West Lauderdale, first place; Satchel Windham from West Lauderdale, second place; and Kristian Hyman from Northwest, third place. Eight-grade winners include Charles Anthony from West Lauderdale, first place; Asher Ivy from Clarkdale, second place; and Talon Dean, third place from Northeast. Alternates selected were Jake Dyess from Clarkdale, seventh grade and George Jones from Magnolia, eighth grade.
