Downtown Meridian was full of laughter and smiles Saturday as multiple events drew residents and visitors to the area for a day of family fun.

Kicking off the morning, Meridian’s four-legged companions were celebrated during the Krewe of Barkus Costume Contest during Meridian Mardi Gras. The annual event draws dogs of all breeds in spectacular Mardi Gras attire as they compete for the titles of King and Queen and the right to lead the Krewe of Barkus parade through downtown Meridian.

The Mardi Gras celebration continued after with live music, bounce houses, food and more at City Hall lawn.

At Dumont Plaza, visitors learned about Meridian’s storied history from some of the city’s most influential historic people during the Downtown History Walk. Organized by the Rose Hill Storytellers, the walk saw volunteer actors and actresses adopt the personas of historic Meridianites and share their stories.
