Teachers and administrators from schools throughout Meridian Public School District’s campuses spoke with job seekers and curious residents Wednesday as the district held a job fair at The Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience.

 

Kimberly Jackson, director of curriculum and instruction for MPSD, said a variety of jobs were represented at Wednesday’s fair as the district looks to fill openings in different departments.

 

“We have several different positions available from elementary school teachers to physical education teachers,” she said. “We’re also looking for some exceptional ed teachers, normally known as SPED teachers.”

 

Outside of teaching positions, the district is looking for employees to help with food service and other support positions that make it possible for teachers to educate and students to learn, Jackson said.

 

MPSD regularly posts job openings on its website, which residents can view by visiting mpsdk12.net and clicking on the Employment tab, Jackson said. Adding a job fair, however, is an additional step that can help schools connect with candidates they might not otherwise get to see.

 

“People don’t know if they qualify for a position or if they can, so this allows them an opportunity to kind of walk in and just talk to someone personally, have a one-to-one conversation to see if they meet the qualifications,” she said.

 

Although Wednesday’s job fair was just a one-day event, that does not mean the district is done looking for workers, Jackson said. Residents who were unable to attend the fair are encouraged to visit the district’s website and apply for positions they believe will be a good fit for them.

 

“If you missed the job fair, couldn’t get here, it’s OK,” she said. “Just go on the website, fill out an application. As soon as you begin that process the application is open and they see it.
