Meridian City Councilwoman Ty Bell Lindsey on Friday filed qualifying paperwork to run in the city’s 2025 mayoral elections. She joins a crowded field of candidates vying to lead the city for the next four years.

A native of Meridian elected in 2021 to represent Ward 5, Lindsey said she cares deeply for her community and wants to continue serving the people of the city at the next level of politics.

“This is community is actually where I’m born and raised, and I have the great pleasure to serve it as city councilwoman,” she said. “Now that I am able to, I want to run for mayor to instill and elevate more than we’ve ever had before. I want to take Meridian to new heights, and I’m really excited about doing that.”

The Queen City has seen fantastic economic development in recent years, Lindsey said, and that is something she wants to continue and expand on as mayor. She said she wants to see economic growth and opportunity spread to all of the city’s residents.

While growing the city’s positive aspects, Lindsey said she also wants to reduce crime and improve public safety.

“My number one goal is to be the safest city in the state,” she said. “That is something that I’m going to streamline to really focus on to make sure that we have a safe city.”

Lindsey said her campaign will also be about improving education, increasing transparency and engaging the community in the city’s decision making process. Accessibility to elected officials is important, she said, and being available to Meridian residents, both on the campaign trail and in office, is a cornerstone of her campaign.

Meridian is one community, Lindsey said, and lasting solutions will require community action. By working together to resolve some of Meridian’s problems, she said, everyone will benefit.

“This community is a family. It should be uplifted, and we all should come together to make our community the best community in the world,” she said. “We need to focus on all the issues, find solutions and then come together to have awesome results that are proven results to make our community have the best quality of life for everyone.”
