CLARKDALE — Getting wins on the road in the division are key.

For Scott Central it was a tale of two halves as the Rebels used a big second half to rally past Clarkdale 53-46 in a key Region 5-2A matchup on Friday night and on senior night for the Bulldogs.

“We scored 41 points in the second half. I guess we woke up at halftime, we played really hard in the second half,” said first year Scott Central coach Carl Wilbanks. “We found a combination of five players that was working for us.”

Clarkdale couldn’t have asked for a better start. The Bulldogs began the game on a 9-0 run and ended the first quarter leading 10-1.

In the second quarter Clarkdale went on a 13-5 run and held a 23-6 lead, but Scott Central ended the first half on a 6-1 run to cut the Bulldog lead to 24-12 at halftime.

The second half is when the Rebels got going. Scott Central outscored Clarkdale 24-15 in the third quarter that was highlighted by a Chancler Burks three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the Bulldogs lead down to 39-36.

The Rebels began the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 44-39 lead and outscored the Bulldogs 17-7 in the fourth quarter. Burks hit a pair of free throws with 24 seconds left to seal the game.

Burks finished with a game-high 21 points, while Parker McGee added 10 points for the Rebels (8-7, 2-3 Region 5-2A).

“Culpepper is the real deal, and he can play, and in the second half we did a lot better defensively on him, and they couldn’t get going and that was the difference in the game,” Wilbanks said. “We haven’t been shooting well at home, and we attacked the offensive boards to start the second half, and that got us going. It’s always hard to get a district win on the road, and we were on a three-game losing streak in the district, so we needed this one.”

Cade Culpepper finished with 18 points to lead Clarkdale, while Connor McDill added 11 points for the Bulldogs (10-10, 0-5).

“For us was we couldn’t get shots to fall, and they started beating us up on the boards and getting second chance points,” said Clarkdale coach Drew Watson. “We missed a lot of free throws as well. I feel like we’re right there we just can’t get over the hump. Good thing about basketball is we got the district tournament, so we can win and get in, so hopefully we can make that happen.”
