Johnny Martin named police chief at East Central Community College

East Central Community College announced Thursday the appointment of Johnny Martin as the college’s new Chief of Police. With over a decade of distinguished service in law enforcement and a deep commitment to community safety, Martin will lead the ECCC Campus Police Department where he already serves as a full-time campus police officer.

 

Martin’s background includes serving as assistant chief with the Newton Police Department, where he gained recognition and expertise in narcotics investigations, undercover operations, and community relations. His skill set spans multiple areas of law enforcement, including conflict resolution tactics, search and seizure laws, felony law, crime prevention training, arrest techniques, rules of evidence, interview and interrogation techniques and mental health first aid.

An alumnus of East Central Community College, Martin graduated with honors in 2011 with an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Southern Mississippi. His leadership capabilities were further honed at the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy, where he served as a squad leader and qualified as a police sharpshooter.

 

“Johnny Martin brings an impressive amount of expertise and a passion for serving this institution and the community,” said Vice President for Student Services and Enrollment Management James Miller. “His leadership will be instrumental in fostering a safe and welcoming environment for our students, faculty and staff, as well as anyone visiting our campus.”
