- A worker paints an arrow in the rearranged parking lot in front of the IHOP restaurant on Frontage Road in Meridian, which quietly reopened Wednesday morning.
As workers finished painting the travel arrows on the new smaller IHOP parking lot Wednesday, customers made the hike from the Holiday Inn next door to the restaurant.
The edition of the Meridian Star in the paper rack at the front door is dated Nov. 7, 2015.
That, of course, was the eventful day that the “sinkhole”, which turned out to be a collapsed culvert, swallowed more than a dozen cars and closed the restaurant.
Inside the restaurant, the staff was all smiles. One employee said she was happy to be finally back at work. Two of the guests indicated the food was “still great” and they were glad to be able to eat there again.
Company officials said they were happy about the reopening.
“Our franchisee and all of us at IHOP are delighted to be able to serve our guests and neighbors once again in Meridian. After a brief but ‘deep’ interruption we look forward to welcoming customers back to IHOP,” Craig Hoffman, the company’s director of corporate communications, said Wednesday.
