JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi’s first distillery is moving operations from Madison to downtown Jackson.

Cathead Vodka is expanding from its 7,000-square-foot space to a new 20,000-square-foot distillery. According to a news release, the added space will allow the production of more spirits, including whiskey.

WAPT-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1OHpdut) Cathead co-founders Austin Evans and Richard Patrick said they are staying true to their Mississippi roots. Evans says they look forward to providing a destination that contributes to the growing cultural drive that is happening in the downtown area.

A ribbon cutting is set for Dec. 8, and a grand opening celebration is scheduled for Dec. 12, which will include tours of the distillery.

Cathead was founded in 2010 with a signature vodka. Current brands include Cathead Honeysuckle, Cathead Pecan, Bristow Gin, Bristow Reserve Gin and Hoodoo Chicory Liqueur.
