The Pat Harrison Waterway District will send Lauderdale County $49,219 to help improve facilities at Okatibbee Water Park.

“Pat Harrison seeks to provide quality outdoor facilities for the use of Mississippians, in addition to our flood control and water management,” District Executive Director Hiram Boone said. “Okatibbee Water Park is a popular attraction in East Mississippi and we’re pleased to have teamed up with the Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors to address the resurfacing needs in an effective, responsible and cost efficient way for all those involved.

“We appreciate working with our member counties on projects like this, and want to thank Lauderdale County Board of Supervisor Josh Todd, District 3, for his leadership in completing this project on-time and under-budget.”

PHWD authorized the purchase of 785 tons of asphalt to resurface portions of the road within Okatibbee Water Park in partnership with the Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors.

Okatibbee Water Park is located on Pine Spring Road, just off Highway 19 North, northwest of Meridian. The facility includes 28 miles of shoreline, a 3,800-acre reservoir offering abundant year-round bass fishing, abundant wildlife including American Bald Eagles, as well as water skiing.

Splashdown Country’s family water slide is open May through Labor Day, with lifeguards on duty for added safety. The park features fully developed camping spurs, with 50 amp electrical service, for camping enthusiasts. Accommodations are also available in four new vacation cabins or in the 25-room lodge
