Pounds scheduled Nelms’ next court appearance July 1. He says any trials will be in late July or early August.
Among other things, Nelms is accused of taking kickbacks from a heavy equipment vendor and of using a county account at Lowe’s to buy items for his home.
The state auditor’s office says he should pay back $308,244.71.
Five others also are charged in what State Auditor Stacey Pickering calls the most elaborate scheme he’s seen since taking office.
