Teen injured in accidental shooting

    A Meridian teenager accidentally shot Monday afternoon is recovering from his injury.

    The accident happened shortly before 1 p.m. at the Old Marion Road Apartments, according to Meridian Police Department Detective Dareall Thompson.

    Thompson said another person was not handling a gun properly when it accidentally fired. The bullet struck a 17-year-old boy.  

    Someone at the apartment complex took the boy to a Meridian hospital for treatment.

    Police responded to the hospital. No charges have been filed in the case, Thompson said.

    “People need to remember that they should always handle a weapon like it is loaded,” Thompson said.
