- Ghosts, ghouls, goblins and zombies will be featured at the Sixth Annual Bailey Haunted House that is open Friday and Saturday nights for the remainder of the month.
Bailey Haunted Firehouse guaranteed to thrill and chill
The scariest haunted house in the Meridian area is open, and its guaranteed to spook the living daylights out of those who dare to enter its doors.
“I can’t elaborate, but some of the scenes we’ve got this year … believe me they won’t be disappointed,” said Jason Combs, coordinator of the annual Bailey Haunted Firehouse, which kicked off in early October and continues through Nov. 1 at Bailey Firehouse No. 3
“Every year, we try to do better than the previous one. And this year, it’s just off the charts – inside and out,” said Combs, who is a Bailey volunteer fireman.
“Some of the scenes we have will just blow your mind. One particular scene, when I say, ‘It will blow your mind,’ well …. They’ll just have to see it for themselves; it will mess with your mind,” he said.
One new aspect to the haunted house of thrills and chills is a safer dwelling.
“Safety is first for us, so we we’re always trying to figure out ways to make it fun – but safe,” the volunteer fireman said. “In the past, our walls inside the house were like plastic – something easy to put up and take down. This year, we’ve added real wall panels; so we don’t have to worry about anybody falling through.”
And, improved parking.
“We increased our parking last year, but we had a problem with people getting stuck,” Combs said. “Now we have a fully-graveled parking lot.”
Running and screaming through a haunted house can work up an appetite. Fortunately, concessions will be available.
“We’ve had concessions the last couple of years, however a lot of people didn’t know about it. We’ll have a full line of concession stands with plenty of crowd favorites,” Combs said.
Community volunteers are key to the haunted house’s success.
“More than half of the people involved with the project are not even with the firehouse. They come out, donate their time, cook for the fireman while we operate the haunted house and do so many other things,” he said.
Money raised from the haunted firehouse support Bailey’s three firehouses to purchase equipment and other necessities.
Bailey Volunteer Fire Department can be found by taking Highway 495 at the Centerhill Martin Road split at the Spirit Gas Station. From there it is just a short quarter mile drive.
