    • Morgan Slusher and Jeremy J. Leach II have been selected to receive the Austin and Alice James Accounting Scholarships at Meridian Community College.  

    These $1,500 awards are funded through the MCC Foundation from an endowment established by Great Southern National Bank at the retirement of both Mr. James from the Bank, and Mrs. James from the faculty of Meridian Community College.

     Slusher, a 2012 honors graduate of Clarkdale Attendance Center, is in the University Transfer Program studying accounting. Slusher works part-time at JoAnn Fabric and Crafts. She plans to continue her education at Mississippi State University to attain a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

     Leach is a 2011 valedictorian graduate of Southeast Lauderdale High School. A President’s List scholar, Leach is in the University Transfer Program studying accounting at MCC. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year college students. Leach is undecided about what university he will attend, however he plans to pursue a degree in accounting and become a certified public accountant. His dream is to take over the family business.

    • DECATUR – Kaitlyn Blue of Ellisville was selected a member Warrior Corps at the East Central Community College in Decatur. 

    Warrior Corps is a select group of students who assist in recruiting and serve as hosts for special events on the Decatur campus. Student Services staff members Lanette Hanna and Romonica Evans serve as sponsors.    

    • STARKVILLE – Jordan Lowe of Meridian is a 2014-15 recipient of the Robert G. Brasfield Endowed Scholarship and the Butler-York Endowed Scholarship awarded by Mississippi State University’s College of Agriculture and Life Science.

    Lowe is a sophomore biochemistry major at Mississippi State, where she is a member of Lambda Sigma honor society, The Biochemistry Club and the Shackouls Honors College. She was on he 2014 Dean’s List and the 2013 President’s List.

    Lowe is the daughter of David and Melissa Lowe of Meridian.

    • Joshua Roberts of Philadelphia has been awarded a $4,000 Yates Companies Inc. Scholarship for the first two years of college. He was selected by a scholarship committee at The Yates Companies Inc., based upon academics, extra-curricular activities and two short essays.

    Joshua will graduate from Calvary Christian School in spring 2014. He plans to major in electrical services.

    Joshua is the son of Charlie and Stacey Roberts.
