    • “Country Alcoholics Anonymous” meets each Thursday at 7:30 p.m. out Highway 493 North, past the Bailey post office. Veer left on to GumLog Road, 1/2 mile to club house by baseball field on right. For information call (601) 737-2463.

    Noon — Bethany Baptist Church will have a Homecoming Service Sunday, Sept. 29 at 12 noon, with food and fellowship to follow. The church is located at 4475 Ponds Road (13 miles south of Meridian on Highway 19 south).

Wednesday, Oct. 2

    11:30 a.m. — The monthly meeting of the Central MS Chapter 1251 of NARFE (National Active and Retired Federal Employees) will be held at Ronnie’s Steak and Grill, 734 Pecan Ave., in Philadelphia. Mr. Gerald Janci, Federation President, will be the guest speaker. All active and retired federal employees and spouses are invited to attend. Oct. 2-6

    The USS Columbus CA -74/CG-12/SSN-762 will host a reunion for those who served on the Los Angeles class submarine at the Hilton in Branson, Mo. For more information, contact Allen Hope at 260-486-2221 during the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time.

Thursday, Oct. 3

    6 p.m. — The Meridian Chapter of Miss. Valley State University Alumni will have their meeting at the Council Of Organizations Building, 814 45th Ave. All alumni in the surrounding area are asked to attend. For info call 601-482-4559.

    6:30 p.m. — The Jerry Wentworth Detachment No. 1101 of the Marine Corps League will meet at 1830 at the V.F.W. Post No. 79, 5614 Old Highway 80 West.  Ladies Auxiliary will meet at the same time and place.  Any honorably discharged Marine or FMF Corpsman wishing to join the detachment may do so with a copy of their DD-214.  Their adult family members are also invited to join the Auxiliary.

Saturday, Oct. 5

    11 a.m. — The annual Lynville School Reunion will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the school. Any student who attended the school or teacher who taught is welcome for the event. The reunion runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please bring a lawn chair. The meal will be catered for $10 and will include a choice of meat and two vegetables. Please RSVP by Sept. 25.     1:30-3 p.m. — The National Multiple Sclerosis Society will host a special program, Managing Pain and Sleep Issues, at  Jeff Anderson Hospital Fitness Auditorium, 2124 14th St., in Meridian. Oct. 6-10

    Northside Church of Christ at 4217 Hwy. 39 North in Meridian will hold a gospel meeting starting Sunday, Oct. 6th through Thursday, Oct. 10th. Service times will be at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Mr. Larry Montgomery will be guest speaker and everyone is invited to attend.

Oct. 12

    Noon — Descendants of William John Dowdle and Catherine Pace Dowdle will meet Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 for the 20th Annual Dowdle Reunion at Lucern Clubhouse in Union. All family members and friends are invited to attend. Come early and bring a dish of food for a noon luncheon. A business meeting will follow the noon meal.

Oct. 9 and Oct. 16

    The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will partner with a local charity, Feed by Faith, to provide the homeless with basic necessities to help prepare for upcoming cooler weather. Individuals, families, and school and church groups are encouraged to participate by assembling backpacks and/or contributing needed items. The “Backpacks for Hope” service project will take place at the church at 5805 N. Hills Street, Meridian. Drop off dates for contributions will be Oct. 9 and 16 from 6-8:00 and assembly will be Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m.  Needed items are backpacks, hats, gloves, blankets, socks and toiletries. Thursday, Oct. 10

    5-8 p.m. — The Meridian Shrine Club, 5516 Dale Drive in Marion will have a Steak Night. The meal includes: ribeye steak, baked potato, salad and condiments. Dine in or take out. RSVP at 601-693-1361.

    6 p.m. — The Fall Session of Women Who Win, a non-denominational gathering of women of faith, will be held at the Lauderdale Baptist Assn. Bldg., 5521 Clinton St., in Marion. Saturday, Oct. 12

    7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. — East Central Community College’s Homecoming activities will take place beginning at 7 a.m. with registration for a Homecoming 5K Run/Walk and a 1-mile kids’ fun run. Homecoming registration begins at 9 a.m., with the Memorabilia Room open from 9-11 a.m. The Alumni Luncheon is at 11 a.m. The cost is $12. The election of 2-13-14 Alumni Association officers will take place at the luncheon and there will be a recognition of Homecoming honorees. The “Lil Warrior Kid Zone” will take place in Bailey Stadium from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A reunion group meets at 1 p.m. in Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium. The 50th anniversary diplomas will be awarded in the gym to the Class of 1963. At 2:30 p.m., ECCC takes on MS Delta for the homecoming game. A pep rally will take place Thursday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. in Bailey Stadium.

     7 a.m. until — A rummage sale will be held at Hamasa Shrine, 5516 Dale Drive (Old Highway 45) in Marion. The sale is a cancer benefit, with proceeds to go to the care of Arthur (Benny) Eggler,

    10 a.m. until — The Carmichael School Reunion will be held on Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. – until at the Carmichael Community Club Building, at the site of the old school building. Sunday, Oct. 13

    8th Avenue Baptist Church will have its Homecoming on Sunday, Oct. 13. Sunday school will start at 9:30 a.m., with worship at 10:30 a.m. A potluck luncheon will follow.

Tuesday, Oct. 15

    5:30 p.m. — Free parenting seminar ,”Child’s Play Today: The Electronic Take Over” at Meridian Community College, Multi-Purpose Center, 915 Hwy. 19 North, Meridian. The presenter is Dr. Lee Lee Marlow, Licensed Psychologist, Clinical Director of the Division of Children and Youth for Weems Community Mental Health Center. Pre-registration is required by calling MCC at 601-482-7445. This FREE seminar is open to the public and specifically designed for those who live and work with children.  

    6:30 p.m. — The Disabled American Veterans Chapter  and DAVA Unit 56 will have a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m., with the meeting shortly afterwards. Oct. 20-23

    Glad Tidings Church, Highway 11/80; Meridian, will be having Homecoming and Revival services  Sunday, Oct. 20, through Wednesday,   Oct. 23.  Service times: 10 a.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.  Rev. Saturday, Oct. 26

    8 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Mark your calendars. The Long Creek Community Development Club’s Third Annual Zero Day will be held Oct. 26. There will be an array of vendors, activities for the kids to include pony rides and races, and live music. The Long Creek Volunteer Fire Department will be on hand with fire truck displays and a raffle for a Henry Golden Boy 22 LR lever action rifle. Tickets are 1 for $5 or 5 for $20.     2 p.m. — The Porterville Consolidated School Reunion Committee will have their next meeting at the Porterville Community Center beginning. Tuesday, Oct. 29

    3:45 p.m. — The Meridian Lauderdale County Public Library will host Halloween Spooktacular, a Halloween celebration for  children ages 3-8. The event will feature Halloween stories and pumpkin decorating. Children must register at the library prior to the program and must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
