• Splashdown Water Park at Lake Okatibbee will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday through Monday for the Labor Day holiday. Lots of concessions will be available. For driving directions, call 601-737-2370.
• “Country Alcoholics Anonymous” meets each Thursday at 7:30 p.m. out Highway 493 North, past the Bailey post office. Veer left on to GumLog Road, 1/2 mile to club house by baseball field on right. For information call (601) 737-2463.
• 6 p.m. — The International Singing Brakeman Association meets every third Thursday at the Best Western Hospitality Room on Frontage Road. Please bring a snack/dish to share. We will eat at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5. For more information, call Glyn Jones at (601) 581-1601.
• Otha Barham plays guitar and sings easy listening music each Thursday from 2 to 4 at the Daily Grind, 4820 Poplar Springs Drive.
• Noon — Refuge Christian Recovery, a meeting for women whose loved ones suffer from alcohol and drugs, meets every Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, Founders Room, 905 23rd Avenue. Call 601-693-1133.
Tuesday, Sept. 3
The Meridian Lauderdale County Library will present story time for preschool age children ages 3-5 on the first and third Tuesday of each month. They must be accompanied by a grownup. Story time will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3 and at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
Wednesday, Sept. 4
The monthly meeting of the Central MS Chapter 1251 of NARFE (National Active and Retired Federal Employees) will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at Ronnie’s Steak and Grill, 734 Pecan Avenue, Philadelphia, MS. Thursday, Sept. 5

4 p.m. — The Meridian Lauderdale County Library will present a family craft story time for children of all ages on the first Thursday of each month. Children will enjoy a mix of stories, songs and rhymes. Children must be accompanied by adults.
6 p.m. — The Meridian Chapter of Mississippi Valley State University Alumni will have their meeting at the Council Of Organization Building, 814-45th Ave. All Alumni in the surrounding area and counties are asked to attend. Please call 601-482-4559 for more info.
6:30 p.m. — The Jerry Wentworth Detachment No. 1101 of the Marine Corps League will meet on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 1830 at the V.F.W. Post No. 79, 5614 Old Highway 80 West. Ladies Auxiliary will meet at the same time and place. Any honorably discharged Marine or FMF Corpsman wishing to join the detachment may do so with a copy of their DD-214. Their adult family members are also invited to join the Auxiliary.
