Walter Parker Jenkins

Graveside services for Walter Parker Jenkins will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Ford Memorial Gardens in the Snell Community with Rev. Lane Busby officiating. Visitation for will be held Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Wright’s Funeral Home, Quitman.   

                Mr. Jenkins, 77, of Lauderdale, died Friday, September 6, 2013 at his residence.

                He was born August 27, 1936 the son of the late Woodrow Jenkins and Ruth (Reynolds) Jenkins in Clarke County.

                Mr. Jenkins served our country in the military and was honorably discharged from the United States Marines Corps. and later retired from the United States Air Force. After a long career in the Air Force he worked in Civil Service for Eglin AFB in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., for a number of years and then finally went into full retirement. He later returned home to Clarke County to be nearer to his family and children after the death of his wife, Lorraine (Scarabin) Jenkins of 42 years in 2000.  He was also preceded in death by a son, Greg A. Jenkins in 1992.

                Survivors include a brother, Gerald Jenkins and a sister, Nalene Jenkins; two sons, Jerry Jenkins and Richard Jenkins; a daughter, Sheila Reed; eleven grandchildren: Joseph Jenkins, Rebecca Demers, Benjamin Jenkins, Pamela Jenkins, Lauren Jenkins, Richard Jenkins II, David Jenkins, Steven McGrew, Conner Reed, Tyler Reed and Jessica Reed; five great grandchildren, Nathan Jenkins, Matthew Jenkins, Adelynn Jenkins, Raymond Jenkins and Ronni Joe Demers.

                The family asks that instead of flowers a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project be made in memory of Mr. Jenkins. Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Rd. Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
