• “Country Alcoholics Anonymous” meets each Thursday at 7:30 p.m. out Highway 493 North, past the Bailey post office. Veer left on to GumLog Road, 1/2 mile to club house by baseball field on right. For information call (601) 737-2463.
• 6 p.m. — The International Singing Brakeman Association meets every third Thursday at the Best Western Hospitality Room on Frontage Road. Please bring a snack/dish to share. We will eat at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5. For more information, call Glyn Jones at (601) 581-1601.
• Otha Barham plays guitar and sings easy listening music each Thursday from 2 to 4 at the Daily Grind, 4820 Poplar Springs Drive.
• Noon — Refuge Christian Recovery, a meeting for women whose loved ones suffer from alcohol and drugs, meets every Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, Founders Room, 905 23rd Avenue. Call 601-693-1133.
Sept. 21-22
The 4th Annual Mississippi Gourd Festival will be held in Raleigh, MS, at the Smith County Ag Complex, on September 21 and 22, 2013. The Ag Complex is located just off Hwy. 35 South on SCR 77 (Oil Field Rd.). Festival hours are Sat. 8 a.m.–5 p.m. and Sun. 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Admission is $2 and free for children 12 and under.
Saturday, Sept. 28
6 p.m. — The Historic Rose Hill Costumed Cemetery Tour will feature stories and portrayals of those buried in the cemetery during the golden era of Meridian from the mid 1800s to the 1930s. Historians, storytellers and volunteers dressed in period costume will present the largest heritage event in East Central Mississippi. The tour is free and open to the public. Organizers recommend that attendees wear sturdy shoes and bring a flashlight.
Sunday, Sept. 29
10 a.m. – until — Charlie Stokes reunion, will be held Sept. 29, at Burnside Lake Auditorium in Philadelphia, Miss., from 10 a.m. until. For more information, call 601-416-1357.
Noon — Bethany Baptist Church will have a Homecoming Service Sunday, Sept. 29 at 12 noon, with food and fellowship to follow. The church is located at 4475 Ponds Road (13 miles south of Meridian on Highway 19 south).
Oct. 2-6
The USS Columbus CA -74/CG-12/SSN-762 will host a reunion for those who served on the Los Angeles class submarine at the Hilton in Branson, Mo. For more information, contact Allen Hope at 260-486-2221 during the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time.
Saturday, Oct. 5
11 a.m. — The annual Lynville School Reunion will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the school. Any student who attended the school or teacher who taught is welcome for the event. The reunion runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please bring a lawn chair. The meal will be catered for $10 and will include a choice of meat and two vegetables. Please RSVP by Sept. 25. 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. — East Central Community College’s Homecoming activities will take place beginning at 7 a.m. with registration for a Homecoming 5K Run/Walk and a 1-mile kids’ fun run. Homecoming registration begins at 9 a.m., with the Memorabilia Room open from 9-11 a.m. The Alumni Luncheon is at 11 a.m. The cost is $12. The election of 2-13-14 Alumni Association officers will take place at the luncheon and there will be a recognition of Homecoming honorees. The “Lil Warrior Kid Zone” will take place in Bailey Stadium from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A reunion group meets at 1 p.m. in Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium. The 50th anniversary diplomas will be awarded in the gym to the Class of 1963. At 2:30 p.m., ECCC takes on MS Delta for the homecoming game. A pep rally will take place Thursday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. in Bailey Stadium.

5:30 p.m. — Free parenting seminar ,”Child’s Play Today: The Electronic Take Over” at Meridian Community College, Multi-Purpose Center, 915 Hwy. 19 North, Meridian. The presenter is Dr. Lee Lee Marlow, Licensed Psychologist, Clinical Director of the Division of Children and Youth for Weems Community Mental Health Center.

Saturday, Oct. 26
8 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Mark your calendars. The Long Creek Community Development Club’s Third Annual Zero Day will be held Oct. 26. There will be an array of vendors, activities for the kids to include pony rides and races, and live music. The Long Creek Volunteer Fire Department will be on hand with fire truck displays and a raffle for a Henry Golden Boy 22 LR lever action rifle. Tickets are 1 for $5 or 5 for $20. The drawing for the rifle will be held that day at the ball field behind 4892 Zero Road.
