Tevin Benjamin due back in court Friday

A status hearing is scheduled Friday for Tevin James Benjamin, the youngest of four teenagers convicted in the 2008 slaying of Michael David Porter in Moss Point.
The Mississippi Supreme Court threw out Benjamin’s conviction in June and ordered a new trial.
Assistant District Attorney Cherie Wade tells the Mississippi Press that the hearing is to set a new trial date.
Authorities said Porter and his wife had gotten lost going to their grandson’s football game in Moss Point in 2008. Authorities say Porter was shot during a robbery attempt at a gas station.
Benjamin, who was 14 at the time of the shooting, was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison.
Three other people were convicted in the slaying.
